This week at Sunset: 1-30-2017 First, I want to thank everyone for your thoughts and prayers for me and my family over the last two weeks. My mother passed away unexpectedly on January 13, 2017. She was 59 years old. It hasn’t really sunk in with me, yet, but I am thankful to be a part of the Sunset family and Moultrie community as we try to return to normalcy. While I was gone, I kept in touch with Bob very often and I want to thank Bob for stepping in during my absence. It was nice to know that everything here was taken care of. Also, Kevin Brown, our mechanic, really stepped it up a notch during my time away and kept me up to date on what was going on. So, I’d like to really thank Bob and Kevin for keeping everything business as usual. Also, while I was gone I saw all the pictures and stories from the tornadoes that touched down in the area on January 21st. That same storm moved through the Augusta area during my mother’s funeral. There was an EF-2 Tornado that t

This week at Sunset: 1-9-2017 The picture above is an indication of what we dealt with last week. Last Monday’s storm dropped about 2.5” of rain, but it also dropped 10 trees throughout the golf course. The worst hit areas of the course were 1, 2, & 3. We focused on this area on Tuesday and were able to make some strides with it on Wednesday. We spent the remainder of the week concentrating on getting trees cut up, moved out of play, and hauled away. We are still working on cleaning the course up and hope to have it back in shape this week. I want to thank everyone for being diligent with us as the guys works hard to clean the golf course up. On Thursday, we were able to have most of the big trees out of the way as we hosted 70 golfers from Tallahassee. This was the same group who played here last month. We mowed and rolled the greens and with the recent weather they seem to have responded well with the lack of sunglight. That is one common thing that all

Safety is our #1 concern and so that's the main reason we are closing today. The course is extremely wet and and we will keep you updated as we get the course cleaned up.

This week at Sunset: 1-2-2017 Happy New Year from The SCC Golf Course Maintenance Staff! The past two weeks of 2016 was a repeat of what we’ve been dealing with for the last month: Rain, warm temperatures, and not a lot of sunlight. Now that we are in January and the winter season is upon us the course will dry out a little slower than normal. The short-cut areas really have held on to the moisture and as a result we have not had to run a lot of irrigation. I apologize for the lack of pictures, I was out of town for a week and wasn’t able to capture some for this post. In the past two weeks, I have concentrated on adding some speed to the greens. Since Dec. 21 st , we have been mowing and rolling the greens at the same time rather than splitting up mowing days and rolling days. I did give the greens a break and only rolled them on Dec. 29 th and so that Kevin, our mechanic, can check the reels and bedknives for quality of cut. My plan is to mow and roll more fre
