This
week at Sunset: 7-10-2017
Well,
this week we’ve started off with 1.5 inches of rain from last night’s storm. There
are chances of afternoon pop-up storms this week and those will taper off by
Thursday. Also, with the rain, the temperatures have cooled off, but expect for
those to go up as the week progresses. All of this means that golf course
should hold quite a bit of moisture that it has endured for the past several
weeks. Also, it means that irrigation will be used less frequent.
Speaking
of irrigation, or as I like to call it irritation, there have been some
electrical issues that we are addressing with one of our control boxes. In the
mean time, we’ve been manually watering 7 of the back 9 greens. Also, we’re
hoping the irrigation project with the new pump is done by the end of the week.
Luckily, we haven’t needed a lot of irrigation, but as you all know and I’ve
learned that can change fast with this golf course.
We
have been able to catch up quite a bit on mowing the rough. We’ve had all our
rough mowers out all week and this past weekend. I hope to have an additional
rough mower here by the end of this week from Jacobsen. This mower will take
place of the pull-behind reel mower that we’ve been mowing the Bermuda rough
with. The issue with the 5-gang pull behind is that it won’t cut the bahia
grass like a rotary deck mower. Also, we’ve had to put a lot of maintenance and
upkeep in the pull-behind because of the wear and tear that it receives. So,
the rough mower that we get from Jacobsen will be a rotary mower that mows with
the contours of the ground, but also can effectively mow all the rough and not
just the Bermuda grass.
As
a reminder, please remember to keep golf carts behind the white lines that you
see throughout the golf course. We do not need any traffic inside those white
lines or around the greens. With the Bermuda grass in its most vulnerable stage
with the transition in full swing it is important to keep traffic away from
highly sensitive areas- greens complexes, tops of teeboxes, and other weak
areas throughout the course. Help us out by keeping your golf cart behind the
white lines and off the green complexes
and
near the tops of tees. Those of you who use pullcarts are fine to cross the
line as pullcarts are lighter and less aggressive. However, make sure not to
pull your carts across the green. Again, I want to thank everyone for helping
us keep your golf course healthy and in shape.
Thank
you for following us this week as we strive to get better every day. As always,
please feel free to reach out with any questions/comments that you may have by
using this blog, Facebook page, or emailing me at davisjoey@hotmail.com. Thanks
for reading!
See
you on the course!
