Going to be a warm week topped off with rain on Friday! Let's hope so!

This week at Sunset: 3-21-2017 Spring is finally here. Ironiclly, we had patches of frost in some places on the first day of spring. We did have a freeze the last week of winter and it certainly put a damper on any warm-season growth. The centipede around the pool and in between holes suffered the worst from the cool temperatures. With highs in the 80’s(possibly 90 late this week) for the next week and overnight lows hovering around 60 degrees we are starting to rebound from the cold snap.  The one thing that we have been lacking has been rain. We haven’t had a measurable rain in over a month. With the Touchdown Club, Packer Invitational, and Little Packer tournaments we have been soaking the course to keep the moisture level in check. Speaking of irrigation, we are hopeful to have our irrigation pump installed this week. This will be extremely beneficial for our overall health of the course and will make things easy for me when it comes to scheduling run times with o

This week at Sunset: 3-21-2017 Between #8 &9, centipede and bermuda dinged up from freeze and frost last week Spring is finally here. Ironiclly, we had patches of frost in some places on the first day of spring. Last week’s freeze/heavy frost knocked the Bermuda back throughout the golf course. The centipede around the pool and in between holes suffered the worst from the cool temperatures. With highs expected in the 80’s for the majority of the next week and overnight lows hovering around 60 degrees we will definitely rebound from last week’s freeze and frost. The one thing that we have been lacking has been rain. We haven’t had a measurable rain in over a month. This week with the Touchdown Club and Packer Invitational tournaments we are going to soak the fairways, tees, and greens and soften things up as we get closer to the weekend. I will be applying a greens fertilizer on Wednesday that is part of our nutrient program to bring some color and growth to t

The lows in the morning will be around freezing and warming up to around 40 degrees by 10 am. The highs will hit the low 50's by 2 pm with hardly any wind like we had today. We start to warm up on Friday and back in the 80's early next week.

This week at Sunset: 3-13-2017 The 62 nd Pot O’ Gold was a huge success. Overall, the weather cooperated for the most part. However, it was a little wet out of the gate on Friday and then cool and windy yesterday. I want to thank everyone for all the compliments all weekend. As I have mentioned before, the conditions that we are in during tournament play is going to be the standard each and every day. Please be sure to offer your gratitude to our maintenance staff as you are making your way around the course. Also, I want to congratulate all the winners yesterday. It was nice to see Sunset CC well represented across the  leader board . Now, that the Pot O’ Gold is out the way, I am looking forward to focusing on the growing season and making improvements throughout the golf course. We do have the Packer Invitational next Saturday and also the Ramsey Pidcock Invitational in July. It may not feel like it right now with the cold weather in place this week, but spring
Weather Outlook for the Pot O' Gold:  FRIDAY: There is a slight chance of rain just before the 1st Round tees off. Otherwise, it'll be a nice 80 degree day with a west wind 5-15 mph. SATURDAY: The 2nd round will be a perfect day for golf. Highs in the mid 70's and a NE wind at 5-10 mph. SUNDAY: Rain is likely on Saturday night and into Sunday. The high will be 64 degrees and rain totals are expected to be just over .5". Lately, the rain has missed the Moultrie area, but this particular system seems like it will stay in tact on Sunday. Good luck to everyone! See you on the course!

This week at Sunset: 3-6-2017 Pot O’ Gold week is finally here! Overall, the golf course is ready to go. The last week we’ve been mowing rough, mowing fairways and tees at tournament height, cleaning up areas around ponds and in pinestraw beds, and sodding some areas around cart paths. We will continue to do a lot of the same this week leading up to Friday’s first round. We will be mowing all the short cut areas (tees, fairsways, and greens) each day of the tournament, weather permitting. As of this writing, it looks like we will be getting some rain tomorrow night/into Wednesday morning. The rain will then return on Friday afternoon and again on Sunday afternoon. It doesn’t appear to be a considerate amount forecasted, but that can always change. We have been in a dry spell lately and so the course would certainly welcome some rain. I certainly hope the rain doesn’t impact any golf, but I don’t anticipate this system to be a washout. Other than that, it is shaping
