This
week at Sunset: 3-13-2017
The
62nd Pot O’ Gold was a huge success. Overall, the weather cooperated
for the most part. However, it was a little wet out of the gate on Friday and
then cool and windy yesterday. I want to thank everyone for all the compliments
all weekend. As I have mentioned before, the conditions that we are in during
tournament play is going to be the standard each and every day. Please be sure
to offer your gratitude to our maintenance staff as you are making your way
around the course. Also, I want to congratulate all the winners yesterday. It
was nice to see Sunset CC well represented across the leader board.
Now,
that the Pot O’ Gold is out the way, I am looking forward to focusing on the
growing season and making improvements throughout the golf course. We do have
the Packer Invitational next Saturday and also the Ramsey Pidcock Invitational
in July. It may not feel like it right now with the cold weather in place this
week, but spring is about a week away. Over the next few weeks we will be
applying spring fertilizations to tees, fairways, and also continuing our nutrient
program on the greens. I’m not going to transition the rye out with herbicides
like some places that I’ve been. I will let Mother Nature handle that part.
Speaking
of Mother Nature, this week it looks like winter is giving us one last visit
before spring moves in. It appears that highs will not reach the 60’s until
Friday. The morning lows will range from the low 30’s to mid 40’s, including a
brisk 31 degrees on Thursday morning. Also, it looks like we’ll be getting
about ½” of rain today and clearing out tonight.
Again,
thank you for following us this week as we strive to get better every day. As
always, please feel free to reach out with any questions/comments that you may
have by using this blog, Facebook page, or emailing me at davisjoey@hotmail.com. Thanks
for reading!
See
you on the course!
Joey
